Scouting, camporee and SOSOG

It was a great chance for me to be able to join with activity team of 49th Colombo scouts camporee. Sri Lanka Old Scouts and Old Guides Association; simply known as SOSOG was the main organizer of camporee activities. Here I’m publishing a brief note and some snaps which describe the effort we made and fun we had there.

Camporee started on 23rd of august under the theme of “Passion for the Environment”. I and my school mates help our scouts to make their gateway on first night. It was a 25ft long watch tower stands with two side gateways. After lots of complications we were able to finish it on 24th afternoon.

Then I had to mind on my part of camporee activities. It was my responsibility to conduct Sports activities, mainly archery and rifle shooting.
"This is how the things should be.."
Kind of rafting boat on set :) (24th night)
In the beginning it was quiet late because of scouts inspections and opening rallies were delayed. But all activity points become active around 10.00 am. Erandi (11st Kandy Mahamaya GGC) and Thesaru (10th Colombo Ananda college) and few other members of SOSOG (Forgive me for not remembering all your names if any of you are reading) was working hard on Rifle shooting while me, Punhas (10th Colombo Ananda college) and Adithya (1st Kandy GHS) conducts Archery with the support of members of archery association.

SOSOG office in busy morning of 25th.
Amila aiya the Shooter :) Hope you can see the crowd behind the science
25th afternoon was damn tuff, more than 1000 scouts’ stands for sports activities so there was a huge traffic for both archery and rifle shooting. I had to do a painstaking task of sending those waiting scouts for other activities because of crowd are unmanageable.

Me shoot with more than 60% accuracy
Sun rising of 26th was quiet late because of heavy raining on previous day. Though we prepared early, participation of scouts was damn less. All the day becomes quiet lazy because of not having enough scouts for events, most of them have finished their required limit of activities within first day. All activity points become inactive around 2 pm so we stopped all activities after few minutes.

In evening there was a little gathering to say good bye to all SOSOG friends who joined with organizing camporee activities.  Then after we had some refreshments together and ended a successful camporee with unlimited challenges and lifetime experiences.

Finally i would like to remind all brothers and sisters who joined with us and worked as a family to make 49th camporee a success. Sorry for not being able to mention all your names here. Don't forget to drop a comment remembering your experiences.

Here are some random snaps taken by Thesaru Wemukshitha Dewpura and Daminda Jayasekara.
